Revamping of cooling towers Decsa

‍TheCustomer's Problem.

In July 2023 we were contacted by a long-standing customer of ours specializing in solid waste recovery for the inspection of 4 Decsa fibreglass cooling towers installed in Marghera (VE) in 1991. A careful analysis by Decsa's Service technicians revealed that the equipment, now dated but still functional, needed major modernization (revamping).

The solution: revamping on cooling towers

In agreement with the Client-who did not want to replace cooling towers but preferred to perform maintenance on the existing equipment -Decsa proposed an almost complete revamping of equipment (except for the motors, fans, and fiberglass top cover).

The revamping activities of the four cooling towers involved, for each unit:

• The replacement of the fill packs
• The replacement of the drift eliminators
• The replacement of air intakes
• Replacing the nozzles with the new DecsaSpray nozzles.
• The replacement of main collectors and secondary collectors
• The replacement of fiberglass panels and doors.

The work also required a great deal of effort on the part of our technical department, which had to rethink and redesign the entire distribution system. In fact, in order to improve the efficiency of cooling towers and avoid the severe corrosion cost in the original (metal) distribution system, we opted to replace it with the current PVC one and add the new DecsaSpray* nozzles.

Project timelines

The order was finalized in October 2023, while the execution of the revamping work, which took place on schedule, was agreed upon in the weeks between the end of February and March 2024, a period in which the Customer had planned the entire plant downtime to allow for various maintenance activities, including the cooling towers.

The activity, supervised by our area agency Tekimp Sas, was coordinated and completed by our Service technicians. In the gallery you can see the various removal and replacement activities carried out during the intervention.
